2008 saw the rise of the touchscreen phone, with many manufacturers kicked into high gear by the release of the iPhone. However, 2009 is due to be the year that touchscreen mobile phones take over and the first candidate for world domination is the stunning Nokia 5800.
Nokia 5800 - music meets touch
The first candidate for touchscreen domination is a whole new entrant into Nokia's Xpress range of music mobile phones, the gorgeous Nokia 5800. This phone is quite obviously made for music and media, as it has a dedicated XpressMusic button that pops up a list of links to music, videos, the internet, and more. Oh, and the Nokia 5800 has a 3.2 inch touch-sensitive display, to actually use all your media content.
Essentially, the Nokia 5800 was designed as a little handheld jukebox and movie player, and as music handsets go, this is easily one of the sweetest. The Nokia 5800 has also got a 3 megapixel camera, HSDPA data connection and sat-nav, making it a brilliant all-round mobile phone, as well as a wonderful media player. Oh, and it's got a strap to fasten on an imitation guitar pick. That's pretty cool, that.
Nokia aim for world domination
Whilst it's very clear that the 5800 isn't Nokia's top-spec entrant into the touchscreen battle (that honour will fall to the Nokia N97, later in the year), it's equally clear that is one seriously sexy and eminently capable little mobile phone. The sound quality of the Nokia 5800, whether it be the sound of music pumping through the stereo headphones, or sound of a call, is always above par, and it must rank as one the best-sounding mobile phones of recent times. Of course, its capabilities go far beyond music; the internet browser is superb, the video playback is superb, the camera (which at 3 megapixels is impressive for a mid-range phone) is superb, and the experience of using all those features, thanks to the beautifully smooth touchscreen and the slick S60 Touch interface, is, yes, superb. The Nokia 5800 heartily deserves all the attention that's been heaped upon it, and is Nokia are determined to rule the world... well, they're off to a good start with the 5800!
